TreVeyon Henderson’s 75 yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter and Jack Sawyer’s 83 yard sack, scoop and score late in the fourth quarter lifted Ohio State to a 28-14 win over Texas in the College Football Playoff Semi-Finals at the Cotton Bowl.

After Texas tied the score at 7-7 with under a minute to go in the second quarter, Henderson took a screen pass from quarterback Will Howard and outraced the Longhorns defense 75 yards for the score and a 14-7 O.S.U.  halftime lead.

Later in the fourth quarter after Ohio State quarterback Will Howard led an 88 yard drive that chewed up 7 minutes and 45 seconds of the clock to give the Buckeyes a 21-14 lead, it was the O.S.U. defense who rose to the challenge and provided the knock out punch.

With Texas driving and having a first and goal from the Ohio State 1 yard line and 4 chances to tie the game at 21 all, the Buckeyes defense came up with 4 stops, the last being Sawyer’s sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery and the 83 yard return for the touchdown and a 28-14 lead with just over 2:00 to go.

Quinshon Judkins added the Buckeyes 2 other scores with rushing touchdowns, while Howard finished with 289 yards passing and the 1 score to Henderson.

With the victory, Ohio State will now play Notre Dame for the National Championship on Monday, January 20 in Atlanta.

The Buckeyes have been listed as an early 9 1/2 point favorite by Vegas.
