Big Time Runs

I have been a big fan of football since I was in high school (full disclosure, I graduated in 1981). I am sure there were times when we have a multiple teams have had great running backs. This year is no different. However, this year when we have covered them on the radio, they have had great games.

Dion Cundiff, Perry – 23 carries, 262 yards, 6 touchdowns against Central
Lameir Garrett, McKinley – 28 carries, 238 yards, 3 touchdowns against Warren
Dreden Owens, Lake – 24 carries, 297 yards, 3 touchdowns against Louisville

Not sure how many running backs can be on the 75th WHBC all county team., there may have to be more than two. Glad I don’t have to vote for 2 of them.

This week I have to select 2 kudos players of the week.

First, Aidan Longwell, QB Massillon. Longwell threw four touchdown passes in the victory, giving him 65 for his career. He broke the old mark of 63 set by Justin Zwick in 2000-01.

Second, Dreden Owens, RB Lake. 24 carries 297 yards, 4 touchdowns, in 3 quarters of play. He had 2 consecutive plays where he ran 82, and 56 yards for touchdowns. If you have not seen the 56 yard run on social media, please visit the WHBCsports.com. I have seen some great runs in my years of following high school football. Owens 56 yard TD run might be one of the best of all time. He breaks 7 tackles, carries another 2 on his back for 10 yards, before breaking free and diving into the end zone.

Will this year’s 75th All County Team be one of the best of all time, we will have to wait and see.
