Guards Trade Bieber To Toronto

The Cleveland Guardians have traded former Cy Young award winner and starting pitcher Shane Bieber to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor league pitcher Khal Stephen.

The 22 year old Stephen, a 6’4-215 pound right handed starter, is 9-1 with a 2.06 earned run average in Single A and Double AA ball for the Jays.

He’s was a 2nd round pick out of Mississippi State by Toronto in the 2024 MLB draft..

The 30 year old Bieber, is coming off Tommy John surgery from last year and has yet to pitch in the Majors this season, but has made multiple rehab starts in the minors.

In 136 career games for the Guardians/Indians,  he posted a 62-32 record with a career ERA of 3.22 and won the 2020 A.L. Cy Young.

In a separate trade, the Guards also dealt relief pitcher Paul Sewald to the Detroit Tigers for a player to be named later.
