Jameis Winston, Browns Stun Ravens 29-24
(10-27-24)
So which was it, the change at quarterback or the change at offensive coordinator that made the difference?
The Browns don’t really care who gets the credit, all they care about is that their 5 game losing streak is over thanks to a 29–24 upset win over the Ravens in Cleveland.
Jameis Winston, making his first start as a Brown, and his first start in the NFL in over 2 years, threw for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns in leading an offense that had not scored over 20 points in any game this season.
Winston also became the first QB for the Browns to throw for 200 yards in a game this year, as he started in place of the injured Deshaun Watson who is out for the year with a ruptured right achillies.
The plays he ran were called by offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, as he took over the play calling duties this week for head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Wide receiver Cedric Tillman benefited from the play calls, as he was Winston’s favorite target catching 7 balls for 99 yards and 2 scores, including what proved to be the game-winning touchdown with :59 left in the game. The touchdowns were the first 2 of Tillman’s NFL career.
The Browns defense preserved the victory, withstanding a last second pass from Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson into the end zone that fell in complete as the clock hit zero.
After the game in the locker room, the victory was dedicated to Browns longtime play-by-play voice, Jim Donovan, who passed away on Saturday. Kevin Stefanski, said “This one’s for Jim”, and his family will be presented with the game ball. The team also honored Donovan with a pregame tribute.
Cleveland improved to 2–6 on the year, while the Ravens fell to 5-3.
Next up for the Browns, a home game Sunday at 1 PM against the LA Chargers.
