Ohio State Beats Notre Dame, Wins 9th National Championship
What seemed improbable following a nightmarish 13-10 home loss to Michigan, became a dream come true for Ohio State on Monday Night in Atlanta, Georgia
The Buckeyes won the first ever 12 team College Football Playoff National Championship defeating Notre Dame 34-23. Ohio State had to defeat 4 teams in their Playoff run, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and the Fighting Irish to take home the hardware.
Ohio State also won the first ever 4 team College Football Playoff Title back in 2014.
O.S.U. Quarterback, and the game’s offensive MVP Will Howard was masterful, completing 17 of 21 passes for 231 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He also ran for 57 yards.
Running back Quinshon Judkins rushed for 100 yards and 2 scores, while catching 2 passes for 21 yards and a 3rd touchdown.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith caught 5 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. His 57 yard catch and run late in the 4th quarter helped seal the game for Ohio State.
Kicker Jayden Fielding was perfect on the night making all 4 of his extra points and 2 field goals.
Linebacker Cody Simon was named the game’s most valuable defensive player.
Ohio State finishes the season 14 and 2, and in doing so, claimed their 9th National Title.
By winning his first National Championship, Ryan Day joins 4 other Buckeye head coaches who have won titles: Paul Brown, Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer all claimed 1 Championship, while Woody Hayes won 5.
Also, the Big Ten has now won back-to-back National Championships after Michigan claimed the title last year and Ohio State this year.
