10.23.23 – Saturday marked the 134th meeting between the McKinley Bulldogs and the Massillon Tigers. The Game had the usual and enjoyable pagentrey throughout the week, large support from both communities, and talent all over the field. Unfotunatly, the game was marred by a fight that broke out during the postgame hand shake.

Football wise, both team’s fate was shown early on the opening Kickoff for McKinley and Massillon’s first offensive play. The Bulldogs fumbled the opening kick and while it was recovered, it was a sign of the struggles coming for McKinley. On the Massillon side of things. The Tigers scored on their first offensive play of the day as DaOne Owens found Braylyn Toles over the top for a 36-yard TD.

Fast forward to the third quater and you’ll find Massillon with a running clock and a 35-0 lead. Massillon spread it around, Braylyn Toles, Michael Wright Jr., Emy Louis Jr., and Dorian Pringle all found the endzone. The Tiger defense was just as good,  finishing with two turnovers, four sacks, and pitching a shutout.

This was the second shutout in the rivlary’s history, the last one coming in 2008 with a 17-0 Massillon win. The Tigers have now won 8 in a row, 12 of 13 and lead the series 76-53-5 overall.

This game may be remembered more for  the the unforutante postgame sctuffle that occured after pushing and shoving in the handshake line.

10 minutes went by before both teams were eventually back in their locker rooms. The events left no celebration on the field, possible suspensions, and an eerie feeling for both teams headed into the playoffs.
