So here we go
So here we go…..Our 75th Year of Broadcasting High School Football for Stark County. What better way to Kick if Off than with 2 Games in Week 1….and our first broadcast with one of the best neighborhood Rivalries in High School Football. The “Battle of 13th Street” as CENTRAL CATHOLIC will play host to the PERRY PANTHERS.
Central is coming off a 4- 6 campaign, and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The roster is small, but they start 7 seniors on Offense and 7 on Defense who were freshmen when CCHS took home the trophy in 2016 Diruzza, Beck, Miller, Neal, Boron and more will be the backbone to success. And, need I mention, that staying healthy will be paramount to success..
The Panthers give every indication they will be a force in 2019. 15 returning lettermen, 4 out of 5 starters return on the Offensive line, and quite possibly one of the fastest and strongest Panther teams since Coach Wakefield’s return to Perry with the likes of Lemon, Cundiff, and Armstrong, and Lapanja. Defense looks stout with Cayman Williams at LB, Kyle Middaugh and others.
On Friday Night we will travel to Tom Benson Stadium where the McKinley Bulldogs open the season with Warren Harding. There are 6 new coaches at Stark County High Schools this season, and new McKinley Head Coach Marcus Wattley is one of them. He inherits a team that is truly blessed with a ton of skill on both sides of the ball. Familiar faces return on offense…..Jalen Ross, Jasper Robinson, Lameir Garrett, and add to the mix QB Elijah Wesley. On defense the Pups return their top two tacklers in Brian Pinkney and Chamber Stokes Williams, and an excellent supporting cast. Coach Wattley will switch it up a bit this year on defense going to a 4 – 2 – 5 and he feels aligns with the skill set of his players. It will be tested against a very fast and physical Warren Harding. It’s a match up that will not disappoint.
